While the mask is being worn, patients are under the effects of nitrous oxide, and will feel calm, but can still respond to their doctor. Oral sedation is the next level of sedation that patients can choose, and is more often used during lengthy procedures or surgeries. Administered in pill form, patients will take a dose before coming into the office and then again just before treatment begins. Oral sedation puts patients into a sleep, calm state. After your treatments are complete, you will need a trusted friend or family member to take you home, as the pill sedation requires some time to wear off.
